INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHER (1978)

I watched the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers last night; I enjoyed both the original Don Siegel version as well as the Abel Ferrara one from the ’90s  but this is my preferred version (let’s not talk about the Nicole Kidman one from the ’00s, thank you very much…)

There’s a lot of symbolism in the film: mirrors distorting the character’s images; a front car window that’s been smashed showing a spider-web pattern — the pattern of the alien invaders — that our hero ignores to see the normal word in front of him; the commentary on pop psychology. These are great touches and seem to be a lost art form in horror films lately.

Invasion ’78 also has a great cast: Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy, Veronica Cartwright and Jeff Brundlefly himself. It did dawn on me though that Art Hindle (who plays Brooke Adams’ boyfriend) has an uncanny resemblance to Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage… wait… wait a minute…
