WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE

By |2018-10-13T14:10:51+00:00October 13th, 2018|Tales of Me|

WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE I really like Wes Craven’s New Nightmare for a lot of reasons, but I don’t love it for a lot of others. The original Nightmare on Elm Street has inched its [...]

[REC] and [REC]2

By |2018-10-12T15:08:14+00:00October 12th, 2018|Tales of Me|

[REC] and [REC]2 The first REC (do I really have to put brackets around that?) is really relentless and inventive with the origins of its zombie plague (plus Manuela Velasco is as cute as the [...]

DEAD END DRIVE-IN

By |2018-10-11T13:39:55+00:00October 11th, 2018|Tales of Me|

DEAD END DRIVE-IN When I first saw the poster for Dead In Drive-In, I pictured a slasher movie where the stalking boogeyman would make short work of his victims during a late-night double feature. Sadly, [...]

CAT O’ NINE TAILS

By |2018-10-10T14:43:06+00:00October 10th, 2018|Tales of Me|

CAT O' NINE TAILS Watching a Dario Argento film that actually involves a through-line narrative is about as jarring as watching one of his elaborate murder sequences. The movie revolves around a journalist, a blind [...]

THE BYE BYE MAN

By |2018-10-09T14:01:55+00:00October 9th, 2018|Tales of Me|

THE BYE BYE MAN So, it turns out The Bye Bye Man isn’t going to be making anybody’s Top Ten Horror Movie lists anytime soon. I admit, the first twenty minutes had me interested, but [...]

CAT PEOPLE (1982)

By |2018-10-08T14:04:32+00:00October 8th, 2018|Tales of Me|

CAT PEOPLE (1982) I’m a big, big fan of Jacques Tourneur’s Cat People from the ‘40s and an even bigger fan of the fantasy films released in 1982 (it was a good year to be [...]

DARKMAN

By |2018-10-07T13:48:16+00:00October 7th, 2018|Tales of Me|

DARKMAN Is Darkman a horror film? I don’t know, maybe. It’s got a guy who puts on masks of other people's faces, so close enough to Halloween I guess. My wife’s interest didn’t last all [...]

LYNCH’S EARLY WORK

By |2018-10-06T13:11:56+00:00October 6th, 2018|Tales of Me|

LYNCH'S EARLY WORK As you might have guessed, I overanalyze the movies I watch. A screening of Aronofsky’s mother! left me in all sorts of disarray. I thought my nose would start to bleed. But [...]

IDENTITY

By |2018-10-05T13:27:36+00:00October 5th, 2018|Tales of Me|

IDENTITY Identity is an odd film to sit with. It sets up a great atmosphere, shot entirely at night and drenched in so much rain I think the actors must’ve dunked themselves in a tub [...]

THE NESTING

By |2018-10-04T13:51:49+00:00October 4th, 2018|Tales of Me|

THE NESTING A sort of uneven haunted house flick from 1981. I liked the setup and the background, the house itself was pretty creepy -- but in the end, pretty confusing and lop-sided.
