INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHER (1978)

By |2018-10-22T15:39:30+00:00October 22nd, 2018|Tales of Me|

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHER (1978) I watched the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers last night; I enjoyed both the original Don Siegel version as well as the Abel Ferrara one from [...]

GERALD’S GAME

By |2018-10-21T14:30:31+00:00October 21st, 2018|Tales of Me|

GERALD’S GAME I have to say, the hype is right: Gerald's Game is as about as good as it gets, Stephen King adaptation or not. Recalling motifs and tones from Misery, Dolores Claiborne, and Secret [...]

PROM NIGHT

By |2018-10-20T14:53:02+00:00October 20th, 2018|Tales of Me|

PROM NIGHT In the dawn of the VHS era, my sister would bring armfuls of video nasties home with her, and then force her nine-year-old brother (me!) to watch entire populations of teenagers be bludgeoned, [...]

BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2

By |2018-10-19T14:05:44+00:00October 19th, 2018|Tales of Me|

...On the other hand, BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2 is as about as hackneyed as it can be. It's completely embarrassing and one of the worst sequels attached to a franchise (hell, it murdered [...]

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT

By |2018-10-19T14:04:23+00:00October 19th, 2018|Tales of Me|

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT I think people forget how scary The Blair Witch Project really is. Kickstarting an oversaturated found footage subgenre (a technique I'm well worn out on...) Blair Witch was lightning in the [...]

THE RING

By |2018-10-18T12:57:04+00:00October 18th, 2018|Tales of Me|

THE RING The Ring is one of my favorite horror films. It's one of the best remakes, up there with John Carpenter's The Thing and Cronenberg's The Fly. No disrespect to the Japanese original (Ringu) [...]

RINGS

By |2018-10-17T15:46:16+00:00October 17th, 2018|Tales of Me|

RINGS My suspension of disbelief did not have a good time watching the interstate pile-up that was Rings last night. An overcomplicated, overly-convoluted, plot-hole ridden mess, the film picks up twelve years after the heyday of [...]

LITTLE EVIL & THE DEVIL’S CANDY

By |2018-10-16T13:38:09+00:00October 16th, 2018|Tales of Me|

LITTLE EVIL and THE DEVIL’S CANDY My wife Sophie really enjoyed Little Evil; I liked maybe the first half. It’s a send-up of The Omen with a recently married man realizing his stepson’s the literal Anti-Christ. [...]

FROM HELL

By |2018-10-15T12:45:45+00:00October 15th, 2018|Tales of Me|

FROM HELL I've seen last night's Halloween flick FROM HELL several times, and am always impressed by the Hughes Brother's beautiful/ugly style of greens, whites, and blacks for London 1888. Also, it was sort of [...]
