THE MUMMY(1932) review

By |2017-10-27T15:04:05+00:00October 27th, 2017|Tales of Me|

THE MUMMY(1932) review The Mummy gets a bad (w)rap. Ha, ha. Puns! He’s not as sexy as Dracula, or as popular as Frankenstein’s Monster. He’s kind of the guy who’s just sort of there. I’m [...]

FRANKLYN review

By |2021-01-06T16:46:35+00:00October 27th, 2017|Tales of Me|

FRANKLYN review I’m not sure how the hell you box something like FRANKLYN into a genre label. The back of the Blu-Ray throws it into “science fiction”, but that’s a big misnomer. It’s wandering somewhere [...]

LAST SHIFT (2015) review

By |2021-01-09T17:50:59+00:00October 27th, 2017|Tales of Me|

LAST SHIFT (2015) review LAST SHIFT is an impressive, well-acted, well-directed picture that would do John Carpenter proud. It packs a lot into its narrative: a rookie on her first shift, a defunct police station, [...]

FURY (2014) mini-review So FURY. Big, big thumbs up. I was kind of apprehensive at first to sit through it (the first trailer was cool, but subsequent ads didn't really hit the spot). But holy [...]

By |2017-10-26T15:16:42+00:00October 26th, 2017|Tales of Me|

NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (1955) review At times, Night of the Hunter has an uneven tone to it, but I’ll be damned if the movie isn’t genius despite it. The theme weighs heavy on the [...]

POLTERGEIST (2015) review

By |2017-10-25T19:00:04+00:00October 25th, 2017|Tales of Me|

POLTERGEIST (2015) review Many years ago, I heard a rumor that Piano-Man/Darth-Vader from-Return-of-the-Jedi-being-unmasked impersonator Billy Joel was caught having a tryst with a very young woman. This was not surprising, as Joel’s loyalty to marriage [...]

NOMADS (1986) review

By |2021-01-06T03:55:03+00:00October 25th, 2017|Tales of Me|

NOMADS (1986) review There's a hypnotic lull in the frames of NOMADS. It begins with a cacophony of city noises that transforms into a tribal beat before settling on a weird mid-80s rock score. It [...]
