LYNCH’S EARLY WORK

As you might have guessed, I overanalyze the movies I watch. A screening of Aronofsky’s mother! left me in all sorts of disarray. I thought my nose would start to bleed. But both David Lynch and Dario Argento (almost always) weave some kind of magical spell that turns off the thoughts upstairs — and send me off into a waking dream to have the images and sounds just wash over me.

And there’s no other way of describing Lynch’s early work (his short film The Grandmother and Eraserhead) then a waking dream.

Well, maybe “movies my parents wouldn’t watch to save their lives”, but the dream thing seems more complimentary.
